Video-game kicks rule in this high-concept, lowbrow action picture, as cynically calculated as it is efficiently executed. Extreme-sports outlaw Xander Cage Vin Diesel lives to give the establishment the finger. We first see him stealing an uptight senator's sports car the fascist fogie supports regulating violent video games and driving it off a bridge,
Jackson, and Marton Csokas. RiffTrax released their riff in September At an underground Rammstein concert, an NSA operative is uploading information on the activity of Anarchy 99, a group of former Russian soldiers.
What follows is a series of action-movie-setting "tests" of Xander to see if he is ready for the mission for which he has been recruited: the infiltration of anarchistic terrorist group "Anarchy 99". The leaders of this group are former KGB agents, trained to sniff out American spies, which means that the vast majority of regular, less x-treme NSA agents have been deemed unfit. The film has at its core the outright rejection of many of the Tuxedo and Martini tropes for better or worseand an extended sequence at the beginning where a tux-clad NSA agent completely fails at his mission and gets killed at a heavy metal concert is clearly a Take That!
It's also completely ludicrous, way over the top -- and a whole lot of fun. Written by Rich Wilkes and directed by Rob Cohen, this pyrotechnic extravaganza rocks from the first frame of film until the closing credits. It's also full of cocky humor, mostly from Diesel; a great tongue-in-check performance by Samuel L.
